    Barbara J. Bowes, FCHRP, CMC, M.Ed.

    President

    As President of Legacy Bowes Group, Barbara Bowes is a highly regarded HR authority and author.

    She is a Certified Management Consultant (CMC), a Certified Human Resource Management Professional (CHRP - Fellow), and holds a Master of Administration in Education degree. She is also certified in a number of human resource and proprietary operational tools and strategies.

    During more than 20 years in all phases of executive search, she has completed successful searches for senior leadership roles including President/CEO, Vice President and General Manager for companies in a variety of sectors. Recently, her focus has been directed to College, School Board and senior human resource assignments.

    In addition to her experience as a business owner, Barbara has also led the human resources management practice at an international accounting and consulting firm and was Director of the Western Canada HR consulting practice for a regional accounting firm. In these roles she and her staff produced results for client organizations ranging from Fortune 500 companies to not-for-profit organizations.

    Her popular "Working World" column appears every Saturday in the Careers section of the Winnipeg Free Press and she is a regular contributor to the Manitoba Business Show on CJOB in Winnipeg.

    Partner, HR and Labour Relations Consulting

    Mike A. Cuma has over 25 years of senior leadership expertise covering all aspects of Human Resources management with particular emphasis on labour and employee relations. He has successfully established and led full service human resources teams for organizations with locations across Canada and the United States.

    Prior to joining the Legacy Bowes Group, Mike served in a number of senior Human Resource leadership roles including Vice President, Executive Director, and Director in some of Canada’s leading organizations. Mike’s extensive human resources experience covers a wide variety of sectors including hospital and emergency care, mining, foundry and heavy transportation manufacturing, aerospace, automotive (bus), and retail manufacturing.

    In addition to expertise in labour relations, Mike’s experience in human resources leadership includes workplace safety and health, training and development, policy and procedures, communications, continuous improvement, benefits, payroll, recruitment and other related areas.

    Mike is considered a change agent with a passion for implementing innovative solutions and programs, continuous improvement and customer service. He has built a solid reputation on effectively linking people and business strategies to achieve organizational goals.

    Vice President, HR Consulting

    Barry Jansen is a senior human resource consultant and leadership training professional with extensive experience in the design, development and implementation of multiple HR strategies as well as front-line and mid-management training programs.

    Barry has a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree, a Certificate in Human Resource Management, and a Certificate in Adult Education. During a 23+ year career that has included both operational and human resource leadership roles, Barry has achieved many accomplishments in the not-for-profit, education, manufacturing, retail, financial services, communications, and healthcare sectors.

    As a management consultant over the past several years, Barry has developed an enviable reputation and has become well known for his executive coaching and customized leadership training strategies. In addition, he has acted as project lead in the areas of psychometric profiling, employee surveys, organizational effectiveness, succession planning and employee relations.  

    Barry’s preferred consulting approach is to partner with his clients to successfully and practically address human resource issues that ensure HR goals are aligned with business needs. Finally, his enthusiasm and motivational style is always quickly adopted by his clients and helps to sustain their internal operational success.

    The importance of community contribution has always been high on Barry’s list and he has volunteered for a wide range of agencies. He is a long term volunteer at the Fort Whyte Centre, Winnipeg Harvest and Manitoba Special Olympics. As a parent, Barry has acted as Team Manager for the Junior Wesmen Girls Basketball team for the last four years. He has also coached basketball, hockey and archery and has volunteered at the World Under-17 Hockey Championship and the Winnipeg Minor Basketball Association’s annual “HoopFest" events.  Finally, Barry is a past board member for Junior Achievement of Manitoba.

    As an HR professional, Barry is not only a member of the Human Resources Management Association of Manitoba (HRMAM) but also played a key role on the 2006 HRMAM Conference Program Committee. Finally, Barry is a long term member of the Human Capital Institute, an international think tank and research organization for human capital and talent management.
