Workforce Planning

Having the right people with the right skills and experience doing the right jobs at the right time does not happen by accident. Rather, it is a comprehensive process that provides managers with a tool for making staffing decisions based on your company vision, strategic plan, budgetary resources and a set of desired workforce competencies.

Workforce planning is not just reserved for large businesses; it is a must for businesses of all sizes. It is no different from the planning required by any other aspect of your business. In fact, while planning equipment improvements might result in a 30% increase in productivity, human resource enhancements can increase productivity up to 70%. Workforce planning can also help you to deal effectively with change, anticipate labour shortages, manage challenging business cycles and ensure compliance with labour legislation.

Legacy Bowes Group’s workforce planning model consists of five distinct steps: development of strategic objectives, conduct of a supply and demand analysis, gap analysis, and solution analysis and the preparation of an evaluation framework. We will work closely with you to:

  • Conduct demand analysis through a review of business strategy and strategic objectives, identify major issues and determine implications of future activities on workloads and staffing requirements;
  • Conduct an internal supply analysis, identify organizational competencies, analyze staff demographics, identify employment trends; and assess the skill depth of current promotable personnel,
  • Conduct a review of current staffing structures and organization charts and identify strengths and weaknesses;
  • Conduct external supply analysis through environmental scanning to assess availability of workforce needs, competition, quality, demographics and economic factors that will impact the workforce;
  • Compare information from the supply and demand analysis to identify areas where current skills will not meet future needs or where skills exceed future needs;
  • Develop a set of short and long term strategies for closing future workforce skills gaps; this includes plans for recruitment, training, career development and re-deployment.
  • Develop an assessment process and an implementation timeframe.

Remember, human resource productivity goes directly to your bottom line.
