Competencies

The President & CEO will possess the following competencies:

Learner Centered/Technical Education: Dedicated to progressing the value and opportunities of technical education to internal and external stakeholders. Has an understanding of the complexities of the technical educational environment. Ensures operational activities are focused on student and learner centered.

Interpersonal Skills/Communication: Relates well to all kinds of people, up, down and sideways, inside and outside the organization; builds constructive and effective relationships; effectively articulates messages using verbal, written and other forms of communication, and is able to get messages across through diplomacy and tact.

Integrity & Trust/Ethics & Values: Direct, truthful and trustworthy individual; keeps confidences; adheres to an appropriate and effective set of core beliefs and values; acts in accordance with those values; and, practices what he/she preaches.

Managing Vision and Purpose: Communicates a compelling and inspired vision or sense of core purpose; is optimistic; makes the vision sharable by everyone; can inspire and motivate entire units or organizations; creates mileposts and symbols to rally support behind the vision.

Strategic Agility: Anticipates future consequences and trends accurately; has broad knowledge and perspective; is future oriented; can articulately paint credible pictures and visions of possibilities and likelihoods; can create competitive and breakthrough strategies and plans.

Political Savvy: Maneuvers through complex political situations effectively and quietly; is sensitive to how people and organizations function; anticipates where the land mines are and plans his/her approach accordingly; views corporate politics as a necessary part of organizational life and works to adjust to that reality; is a maze bright person.

Business Acumen/Learning on the Fly: Knowledgeable about current and possible future trends, technologies and practices affecting the technical educational environment; is aware of strategies and tactics in the marketplace. Learns quickly when facing new problems; is a relentless and versatile learner; open to change; analyses both successes and failures for clues to improvement; enjoys the challenge of unfamiliar tasks; quickly grasps the essence and the underlying structure of things.

Organizational Agility: Knowledgeable about how organizations work; knows how to get things done both through formal channels and the informal network; understands the origin and reasoning behind key policies, practices, and procedures; understands the cultures of organizations.

Managing Diversity: Manages all kinds and classes of people equitably; deals effectively with all races, nationalities, cultures disabilities, ages and both sexes; hires variety and diversity without regard to class; supports equal and fair treatment and opportunity for all.

Coaching/Mentoring/Work-Life Balance: highly effective at blending people into teams; creates strong morale and has the ability to inspire teams and individuals to excellence; is a people builder. Maintains a conscious balance between work and personal life so that one doesn't dominate the other; knows how to attend to both; gets what he/she wants from both.

Creativity: Comes up with a lot of new and unique ideas; easily makes connections among previously unrelated notions; tends to be seen as original and value-added in brainstorming sessions.
